Clinical Info
False-positives may occur because of cross-reactivity with other members of S. mitis group. Clinical correlation is recommended. Patients who have received the S. pneumoniae vaccines may test positive in the 48 hours following the vaccination. It is recommended to avoid testing within 5 days of receiving vaccination. The College of American Pathologists (CAP) requires that bacterial antigen detection testing performed on CSF specimens be confirmed by culture (CAP MIC.22550). All CSF specimens will be processed with the assumption that a culture was performed before sending to ARUP unless a specific request for culture is included with the test order.
