UTM is used for the collection and transportation of specimens for virus, chlamydia, mycoplasma, and ureaplasma testing.

Universal Transport Media (UTM) is shelf-stable for up to one year and can be stored at ambient temperature rather than refrigerated; however, once the specimen is inoculated, it must be refrigerated.

Transport at 2 – 8°C.

Included in this kit is the following:

– (1) regular-size applicator swab with flocked nylon fiber tip with breaking point
– (1) flexible mini tip applicator swab with flocked nylon fiber tip with breaking point detectable as a narrowing of the stick
– (1) Universal Transport Media specimen transport tube

Nasopharyngeal (NP), Oropharyngeal (OP), and Anterior Nares Specimen Collection Instructions

Regular Swabs in UTM are required for:
– Herpes Simplex & Varicella-Zoster Virus, Molecular Detection (HSVVZV)
– Viral Culture (VADNO, CMVCUL, VENT)
– Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma Culture on Genital Specimens (MYPLAS)

Mini-tip Swabs in UTM are required for:
– Respiratory Panel by PCR (RPPCR)
– Bordetella pertussis Nucleic Acid Amplification (BORAMP)
