Clinical Info
Diagnosis of infectious diseases should not be established on the basis of a single test result, but should be determined in conjunction with clinical findings and infection history. A positive result generally indicates exposure to mumps virus or previous vaccination. Patients with negative results, no history of vaccination and exposure to mumps is suspected should be retested 1-2 weeks later. Patients with Equivocal results should have a new sample collected and tested 1-2 weeks later.
Clinical Limitation
Bacterial contamination or heat inactivation of the specimens may affect the test result. .
