Clinical Info
Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) is a semi-quantitative non-treponemal test that is only used when syphilis screen (i.e., treponemal) test is positive/reactive. RPR is also used for treatment follow up of treponemal infections mainly venereal syphilis. RPR may be reactive due to a range of other causes, certain infections (HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, etc.), anti-phospholipid syndrome, endocarditis, and malignancies among others. Clinical correlation is required.
