Special Info

Do not spin the tubes. The sample must be delivered to the Manual Hematology-Coagulation laboratory within 3 hours of collection. Please indicate the precise antiplatelet therapy that the patient is receiving at the time of testing (i.e. aspirin dose, clopidogrel (PLAVIX) dose). Test will not be performed if the platelet count is less than 100,000/uL. 3.2% sodium citrate is the preferred anticoagulant recommended by the NCCLS.

Clinical Info

This test is recommended for monitoring the inhibitory effect of aspirin or clopidogrel. It should not be ordered to diagnose intrinsic platelet dysfunction. For this indication, order PLATELET AGGREGATION.
