Special Info

Samples must be collected in a red-top tube, without serum separator. If frozen, samples should be kept at -20 or colder (-70 or colder is preferred).

Clinical Info

The test is used as an aid to assess the functional performance of the classical pathway of the complement system. Clinical correlation is required. This assay is performed on the Binding Site Optilite turbidimetric analyzer.

Clinical Limitation

Sera must be handled properly to prevent in vitro complement activation. Sample should not be frozen and thawed more than three times. This assay has not been evaluated for the pediatric population. Turbidimetric assays are not suitable for the measurement of highly lipemic or hemolyzed samples or samples containing high levels of circulating immune complexes due to the unpredictable degree of non-specific scatter these sample types may generate.
